Equipment - Modified 350D

Digital SLR cameras usually have a infrared blocking filter in front of the sensor, which is designed to give a good white balance in daylight photography. Unfortunately this color balancing feature dims near infrared radiation and very common H-alpha radiation at 656.3nm falls in to this region. Typically H-alpha is attenuated about 80% due to this filter. This filter is removed from my Canon EOS 350D, which makes it more sensitive to H-alpha radiation. It's even possible to record even redder part of the spectrum like Sulphur II emission at 671.9nm and 673.0nm. IR is still a problem when using refractive elements in optical train. Because of that an IR blocking filter is necessary. I use filters designed for astrophotography, which lets H-alpha through.
